Holiday Grants
The APNBA is providing small grants to business district associations to enhance marketing during the holiday shopping season. Business District Associations are eligible for up to $1500 for holiday marketing projects. Like previous grants, the funds must be matched at least 1:1 with volunteered time, goods, and services.
Grant requests will be available September 1. They must be postmarked by September 28. Decisions will be made by October 19 and the funds will be released on October 23. Final reports are due January 31. The grants are only to business district associations and only for holiday marketing.
Celebrating Individuality
July is an incredible month for business district events. Every weekend offers a different district to explore and enjoy. It starts with First Sunday in Old Town Chinatown and ends with a pancake breakfast at Hillsdale. There's jazz in St Johns, an international festival on NE Sandy, a sidewalk sale in Nob Hill, festivals with music, vendors and parades at Woodstock and Division/Clinton in SE, and art just about everywhere.
This summer, plan to visit every one of Portland's 30+ villages. See and taste and hear what makes Portland such a great place to live. For a complete list of business district events, visit Events on the APNBA web page.
Praising Portland
More good reasons to visit district events this summer. Here's what America's pundits think of Portland:
- The "#1 Most Sustainable Big City in America" by SustainLane.com. - www.SustainLane.com (June 2006)
- America's "Best Eating Destination" - The Food Network (April 2007)
- Cooking Light's 20 Best Cities Awards - Cooking Light (Jan.-Feb. 2007), second place
- "One of the World's Top Travel Destinations for 2007" - Frommer's Travel Guides/www.frommers.com (Jan. 2007)
The top six countries visiting Portland are: Germany, United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, Korea, and Mexico. They typically stay in the US for 2-3 weeks. They are not climate dependent and visit year around.
